Processes
launchd
The first process macOS starts. It launches and manages almost everything else.
What it is
launchd starts when your Mac boots (it has process ID 1) and then starts system services, login items and background agents, restarting them if they quit.
It rarely uses much CPU itself. When it looks busy, it's usually because something keeps crashing and being relaunched.
Should you worry?
Almost never. You can't and shouldn't quit it.
What you can do
- If it's busy, check Console for an app that crashes repeatedly, and update or remove that app.
