PID (process ID)
The unique number macOS gives every running process.
What it is
Each process gets a PID when it starts. launchd is always PID 1. PIDs are reused after processes end.
Activity Monitor and Tempo show PIDs so you can tell apart several processes with the same name, and Terminal commands like kill use them.
Should you worry?
Never.
